The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan holds annual training courses “Reactor Engineering”, organized as part of the agreement between the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Japan Atomic Energy Agency on staff training in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The main purpose of the fourth annual course is to provide basic and expert knowledge in the field of reactor engineering. The weekly course program includes the following topics of lectures and practical exercises: reactor physics, nuclear fuel technology, reactor material science, structural and fuel materials, the basics of fuel reprocessing and radioactive waste management. The sections of lectures and presentations were also prepared for participants and trainees, where the instructors outlined NNC activities and about staff training in nuclear industry within the activities of NNC and JAEA.

The agenda of the course also includes technical tours and excursions at NNC objects such as: Tokamak KTM, RRC Baikal-1, STS museum.
