The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan has held a ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque in honor of the veteran – Alexander Nikolayevich Kolbaenkov.
November 30 marked what would have been the 80th birthday of Alexander Nikolayevich. He dedicated over fifty years of service to the NNC RK, rising from an engineer of gas systems to Head of the Baikal-1 Research Reactor Complex, then Chief Engineer of the Research Reactor Complex, and in his later years – the leading specialist on reactor technical issues.
Alexander Nikolayevich stood at the origins of all major experimental work at the complex, including the physical startup of the IVG-1 reactor in 1972, and his participation in the development and testing of modernized RA and IVG -1M reactors, as well as in the creation and operation of Baikal-1 complex systems. His knowledge and experience significantly contributed to the advancement of experimental research and the safe operation of the reactor facilities.
He served as a mentor to young specialists, embodying professionalism and dedication to his work. His contributions were recognized with both industry and state awards. A.N. Kolbayenkov was an Honorary Citizen of the Kurchatov city.
The memorial plaque installed at the Baikal-1 Research Reactor Complex serves as a tribute to a professional who devoted his entire life to this facility and made an immense contribution to its advancement. His legacy will forever remain a part of the history of the National Nuclear Center of RK. It lives on both in our hearts and in the new achievements of our team.
