On November 21, 2025, a meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council was held at the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The progress of implementation in 2025 of research projects carried out under program-targeted financing was reviewed.
In his opening address, Director General of NNC RK – Chairman of the Council E.G. Batyrbekov outlined key developments of strategic importance for the organization and nuclear sector of Kazakhstan at all. He emphasized the proactive role of the NNC RK in initiating and supporting legislative work aimed at enhancing nuclear and radiation safety, developing the atomic sphere. Specifically, in 2023, the President signed the laws “On the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Safety Zone” and “On Introducing Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Issues of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Safety Zone, Ecology and Electric Power Industry.” The implementation of these laws in now one of the top priorities of the enterprise. Furthermore, the draft law “On Radioactive Waste Management” is being developed. Separate attention was dedicated to the project for the establishment and development of a science city in the town of Kurchatov.
During the course of the meeting, participants reviewed the 2025 outcomes of research projects focused on the development of nuclear power, controlled thermonuclear fusion technologies, and advanced approaches to radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management. The novelty, high quality, and strategic importance of the obtained results for the further development of nuclear science and technology in the Republic of Kazakhstan were highlighted.
Following the meeting, the Scientific and Technical Council endorsed the interim results of the 2024-2026 program-targeted financing projects and provided recommendations for the focus of future research.
