NNC RK and JSC “NAC “Kazatomprom” Discussed Issues Related to Radioactive Waste Management

From November 4 to 6, 2026, a delegation from JSC “NAC “Kazatomprom” led by Kuanysh Omarbekov Chief Operating Officer, paid a working visit to the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Main purpose of the visit was to discuss practical issues related to implementation of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Radioactive Waste Management”, adopted on July 7, 2026.

This new Law provides for establishment of a Unified National System for Radioactive Waste Management, including its collection, transportation, storage, and disposal. Functions of the national operator in this area have been entrusted to the RSE NNC RK.

During the working discussions, particular attention was paid to issues of cooperation between the national operator and enterprises the nuclear industry, improving regulatory framework, and establishing organizational mechanisms for Radioactive Waste Management.

Developing cooperation between the National Nuclear Center of Republic of Kazakhstan and JSC “NAC “Kazatomprom” is crucial for establishing a National System of Radioactive Waste Management and ensuring environmental safety of Kazakhstan.
