On 17th July, 2025, the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan received a delegation led by Hiroshima Prefecture Governor Hidehiko Yuzaki as part of his working visit to the Abai region.
The Director General of the NNC RK, Academician Erlan Batyrbekov, welcomed the guests and emphasized the special significance of the visit by representatives from the region that became a global symbol of peace following the tragic events of 1945. "For Kazakhstan, whose territory was used for hundreds of nuclear tests, Hiroshima's path is an important example of strength of spirit, striving for disarmament, and building a nuclear-free future," he noted.
In his response, Mr. Yuzaki expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and praised Kazakhstan's contributions to the international effort to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and to develop peaceful nuclear technologies. He also presented the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace's (HOGP) activities, describing its initiatives in humanitarian cooperation, sustainable development, and global security.
During the visit the guests got acquainted with the exposition of the Semipalatinsk Test Site History Hall and visited the test site of the Test Site ‘Opytnoye Polye’, where air and ground nuclear tests were conducted, including the very first test on 29 August 1949.
