On June 18, 2025, a delegation from the Southwest Institute of Physics (SWIP, China), part of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), paid a working visit to the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As part of the visit, the guests familiarized themselves with the scientific research and experimental facilities of the NRC RK, including the KTM complex, research laboratories, and other key facilities. Overview tours were organized for the delegation, and a technical meeting was held where both parties presented reports on current research in the field of controlled thermonuclear fusion (CTF).
During the discussions, possible areas of bilateral cooperation were considered, including research on plasma interactions with materials, the development of new diagnostic methods, as well as testing of advanced materials for plasma-facing components of thermonuclear installations. As a result of the meeting, concrete steps were outlined for developing the partnership and implementing joint projects.
SWIP is one of China's key scientific centers in the field of fusion energy and actively participates in several national and international projects, including the ITER program. The institute has a unique research infrastructure and extensive experience in the design and operation of tokamaks, including the HL-2A, HL-2M, and HL-3 facilities.
The SWIP delegation's visit was an important step in strengthening international scientific cooperation in the field of research and development of controlled thermonuclear fusion technologies.
