A Memorandum of Understanding Signed between the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the China Institute of Atomic Energy

On 26 September 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the China Institute of Atomic Energy was signed within the margins of the 67th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference.

The Parties have agreed to cooperate in the following areas:

­ Research in physics and thermal hydraulics of reactor facilities;

­ Research and development to improve the safety and efficiency of new reactor designs;

­ Research and development in the field of promising nuclear fuel and structural materials for nuclear and fusion facilities;

­ Research in decommissioning of nuclear reactors, spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management;

­ Research and development in advanced energy technologies;

­ Research and development in radiation safety and ecology;

­ Information exchange on environmental governance at nuclear test sites (including analysis, hazard assessment and hazard mitigation).

For reference. The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the China Institute of Atomic Energy had gained the considerable experience in scientific research in the field of atomic energy, have a developed and unique research base - all this together will provide a platform for the development of successful bilateral scientific and technical cooperation.
