On April 28, 2023, Committee of Atomic and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the Passport for IVG.1M research reactor with new low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel.
This follows the great amount of successfully completed efforts commenced back in 2010. Specialists of the National Nuclear Center together with foreign partners have performed as follows: feasibility study for reactor operation with new core; manufacturing and testing of experimental fuel; manufacturing, transportation and acceptance test of standard LEU-fuel; reactor physical and power start-up.
Currently, the IVG.1M reactor is ready for continuation of experiments and scientific research under budget and commercial programs in peaceful nuclear development, which leading international organizations have a stake in.
