Kazakhstan and Japan: Prospects for Cooperation Development

Today in Japan, scientific-technical seminar has started between specialists of the National Nuclear Center of RK, Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corp. and Marubeni Utility Services. This seminar is the second in a series of planned meetings to discuss new areas of cooperation in solving technical and environmental problems associated with the accident consequences at Fukushima NPP. During the week, a wide range of issues will be discussed, tasks and possible ways to be solved will be formulated and specified, as the result of which a common understanding of further joint actions on planning and implementing of new projects will be developed. The first seminar was held in June 2019 at the base of the National Nuclear Center. At that period, Japanese specialists were introduced with capabilities of experimental base of NNC RK, the areas of mutual interest for cooperation development were tentatively identified.

During the opening of second seminar in Toshiba head office, Mr. Goro Yanase, Vice-President, Head of Nuclear Power Sector of the company noted a good basis for expanding interaction among organizations as successfully implemented and ongoing joint projects. The results obtained to this day are in demand during the preparation of active phase of works on corium extraction from emergency reactors of Fukushima NPP and safety enhancement of the operating reactors. Seminar participants agreed that during the upcoming discussions it is necessary to form a “road map” for the preparation and implementation of new joint operations.
