NNC RK Expands Cooperation in the Field of Reactor Research

02 October 2026

National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan presented the experience of conducting non-stationary tests on the IGR research reactor during a meeting of the Advisory Council of the International Research Center based on the MBIR reactor in Tashkent.

The focus was on the IGR capabilities for testing nuclear fuel and materials under transient and accident conditions. Accumulated experimental experience of the NNC RK is in high demand, particularly for testing and validating computational models used in justifying the safety of nuclear facilities.

Participants were presented with the results of research conducted within the framework of the BREST program, as well as the international projects EAGLE and SAIGA.

Special attention was given to the prospects of using experimental data from the IGR to validate computational codes.

Participation of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the work of the MBIR International Research Center opens up additional opportunities for cooperation in the field of research on promising types of nuclear fuel and materials, conducting experimental works and improving computational tools for the nuclear power industry.
