Equipment Tests for IGR Research Reactor Successfully Completed in Italy 

Scientists from the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with colleagues from National Laboratories of U.S. Department of Energy have completed Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) of L-Positioner in Italy.  

The equipment, manufactured by Italian firm Sideros Engineering, is designed to handle repackaging operations for HEU fuel from IGR research reactor. This test marks a key milestone in a fuel dilution program aimed at reducing nuclear proliferation risks and strengthening global nuclear security. 

Testing covered technical specifications, operational functionality, and compliance with established requirements. The L-positioner passed all evaluations, confirming its readiness for deployment.  

That equipment is set to be shipped to Kazakhstan, where specialists will carry out installation, commissioning and operator training ahead of full project operators.
