Comprehensive environmental assessment of the 'Karazhyra' and 'Karadjal' deposits

One of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan's responsibilities is to ensure radiation safety throughout Kazakhstan. This work is carried out as part of contractual obligations with various enterprises. A comprehensive environmental survey of ten land plots at the Karazhyra and Karadjal sites is therefore currently underway. 

In order to assess the current radiation situation, over 600 environmental samples have been collected and analysed, including soil, water, air, vegetation and biological samples. Based on the data obtained, survey reports are being prepared for each site.

These will help to identify potential environmental risks, determine the level of contamination in the areas and assess the feasibility of continued use.
