Start of Expeditionary Work

15 April 2026

The field season for the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan's expeditionary work at the Semipalatinsk Test Site (STS) and the surrounding areas has begun.

A comprehensive environmental survey of the Dolonsky rural district is continuing in 2026. Following preparatory activities, including mapping, trip planning, staff training, and equipment preparation, work began in late February. To date, approximately 200 soil samples have been collected.

Monitoring of the STS territory also began in March, with spring sampling carried out at 22 monitoring points — including areas of potential radionuclide migration — and samples of air aerosols and groundwater collected. Prior to this, specialists inspected and maintained the wells, measuring their key parameters.
