In December, the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in a regular meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s International Fusion Research Council (IRFC IAEA).
This meeting of the year was convened at the headquarters of the ITER Organization. The agenda featured country reports from IFRC member states detailing the status of controlled thermonuclear fusion activities, national fusion research programs, progress in developing experimental infrastructure, and key recent scientific and technological accomplishments. The session also included reports from IAEA, which summarized the activities of Agency in the field of controlled fusion over the preceding year and presented its planned initiatives for the immediate future.
Meeting participants discussed matters of international coordination in controlled thermonuclear fusion research, existing scientific and technological gaps and key challenges facing the industry. Based on these discussions, a set of recommendations was formulated to enhance the efficiency of the activities of IAEA. These recommendations focus on improving cooperation mechanisms, facilitating information exchange, and supporting both national and international projects.
Participation of the NNC RK in the work of the IARA IFRC contributes to strengthening standing of Kazakhstan within the international fusion community and furthers the integration of the country’s research in the global scientific agenda.
