Pivotal Role of Kazakhstan in Global Thermonuclear Fusion Research

17 December 2025

National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK) has represented Kazakhstan at the meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the International Tokamak Physics Activity (ITPA) and the 16th meeting if the Executive Committee of the International Energy Agency’s Technology Collaboration Program on Cooperation on Tokamak Programme (TCP-CTP), which both were hosted at the site of the ITER Organization in France.

The meetings featured presentations on the latest research in controlled thermonuclear fusion, advances in diagnostic systems and materials for high-temperature plasma environments, and the upcoming plans of relevant working groups.

As a part of the proceedings, Kazakh delegates tabled an initiative for accession of Kazakhstan to the International Energy Agency’s Tokamak Program, that move was met with a positive response and gathered support from existing members of the ITPA and TCP-CTP programs.

Membership will provide scientific community of Kazakhstan with opportunities to build and enhance professional networks, access state-of-the-art research data, and engage in discussions on future collaborative projects with key players in the high-technology domain of controlled thermonuclear fusion.
