Visit by Representatives from Argonne National Laboratory

From July 21 to 24, the representatives from Argonne National Laboratory (ANL, the United States) had a working visit to the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan, consisting of a number of technical meetings and negotiations. 

A key subject discussed was the planning of works on the development and testing of high temperature graphite low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel in the aims of IGR reactor conversion. It is estimated that the fuel would be produced by technology, which is being developed by the NNC RK specialists. The works are carried out within the framework of joint conversion program, implemented in according to contract between Argonne National Laboratory and National Nuclear Center of RK.   

The visit was a significant step towards strengthening partner relations and agreeing to the way forward on projects implementation in the field of nuclear safety and non-proliferation.
