From June 24 to 26, 2025, a technical meeting was held in Kurchatov, Kazakhstan, between specialists from the National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), and Marubeni Utility Service, Ltd., to discuss the international post-EAGLE-3 contract.
The project involves a technical and economic feasibility study to investigate the possibility of conducting in- and out-of-reactor research to justify the design of a promising fourth-generation sodium reactor (JSFR). Once the study is complete, a decision will be made on whether to continue the EAGLE-4 experimental research program.
The main agenda of the technical meeting was to determine the status of the feasibility study stages according to the schedule. The meeting also included discussions about technical requirements and design issues related to in- and out-of-reactor experimental devices, as well as justification of their testing modes. The meeting also included a discussion of the deadlines for completing the study stages, the report's structure, and the materials to be included.
The meeting was held at a high technical level. Following the event, minutes were drawn up reflecting commitments for the upcoming contract implementation period.
