Kurchatov, Kazakhstan — June 20, 2025: The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK) is once again hosting participants in the United Nations Disarmament Program, including young diplomats and specialists from over 20 countries worldwide.
Implemented under the auspices of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs since 1978, the program aims to develop the expertise of future international specialists in global security, nonproliferation, and nuclear disarmament.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan organized the visit to Kazakhstan in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy and the NNC RK. This is the seventh time that Kazakhstan has hosted the delegation of fellows; previous study tours took place in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023. The regular inclusion of Kazakhstan in the program underscores the international community's recognition of the country's contributions to nuclear disarmament and global security.
During their stay in Kurchatov, the delegates visited the former Semipalatinsk test site and learned about the region's nuclear heritage and the NNC's unique scientific and engineering infrastructure, including laboratories and experimental sites. They also learned about modern projects in radiation and nuclear safety and the peaceful use of atomic energy.
The program also included meetings with NNC scientists and discussions about the history and consequences of nuclear testing and Kazakhstan's international initiatives in the field of disarmament and nonproliferation.
