On the visit of the delegation of NNC RK to the ITER Organization

05 June 2025

On June 4, 2025 a delegation from the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK) came with a visit to ITER Organization, which handles the implementation of the world’s largest project regarding thermonuclear fusion.

ITER – the major international project related to the construction of experimental thermonuclear reactor. Its task is to demonstrate the feasibility of generating energy using controlled thermonuclear reactions, similar to those what goes on in the interior of the Sun and making technologies for the energy facilities of future.

During the visit, the Agreement on the cooperation between NNC RK and ITER Organization dedicated to the further development of interaction in the field of studies and thermonuclear fusion technologies in favor of the draft ITER Project was signed.

This agreement opens a new phase of cooperation between ITER Organization and NNC RK.
Under the signed first Agreement with ITER Organization in 2017, the National Nuclear Center was successfully implemented overall three scientific and research projects.  Also the several projects are remained under consideration.

During the visit, specialists from both organizations met to present reports on the current status of work at ITER and research on controlled thermonuclear fusion at the National Nuclear Center of RK. The meeting covered a number of promising areas for future collaboration, including research on first wall materials, plasma process modeling, and the participation of Kazakhstani scientists in joint ITER projects.

The visit confirmed their mutual interest in enhancing scientific-technical interaction.
