The delegation from the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK)'s visit to France concluded successfully on June 6 with a visit to the Agency for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ASNR) in Montrouge. The ASNR is an independent administrative body that oversees civil nuclear activities in France on behalf of the state. The agency also conducts research and provides expert training and public information in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection.
The main purpose of the visit was to learn about France's experience ensuring the safety of nuclear and radiation facilities. France ranks second in the world in terms of energy generated by nuclear power plants and first in terms of its reliance on nuclear energy. This has enabled France to develop extensive expertise in using nuclear energy and ensuring radiation safety. During the visit, the guests met with the leadership of the ASNR, headed by Vice-President Jean-Luc Lach. The guests were given a presentation on the ASNR's activities and a tour of the Crisis Center. NRC employees presented reports on their main results and on their activities in ensuring radiation safety and radioecological research. Both parties acknowledged the high level of competence that the organizations have achieved in the field of nuclear and radiation safety. During the working meeting, possible areas for joint research were discussed.
This visit is important because Kazakhstan has decided to build a nuclear power plant and develop nuclear energy. Therefore, a system must be created to ensure radiation and nuclear safety for the population and the environment.
