International research project entitled “Novel biological and physical methods for triage in radiological and nuclear emergencies” (BioPhyMeTRE) funded by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme was realized by the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology Branch of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (IRSE NNC RK) during 2020 – 2023.

IRSE NNC RK was committed as an international competent party along with global leading research centers in biological and physical dosimetry. From IRSE part, the project was guided by Laura Kenzhina, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Biodosimetric Research.

The project contributed to strengthening of national competencies in the field of preparedness and response to radiation, nuclear and emergency situations. Thanks to the project involvement, our specialists completed their internships in leading biodosimetric laboratories and training programs, as well as improved their professional skills. In the course of program implementation, IRSE experts procured up-to-date equipment and high-quality reagents that raised the standards and effectiveness of cytogenetic research in our country. The results of 3-years’ research were introduced as project outcomes at global scientific platforms, including conferences, symposiums and congresses.
