Participants of IAEA International conference on Nuclear Security held in Vienna from 5 to 9 of December, 2016, representing 168 countries, by general consent have adopted Ministerial Declaration, which bind them over to enhance combating illegal trafficking, transit or seizing radioactive materials.

This was the second Conference on nuclear security held by IAEA every three years. The conference attracted delegates from 168 member states, including 50 ministerial level delegations.

Kazakhstan delegation, consisting of representatives from Ministry of Energy and National Nuclear Center, was led by Ambassador Kairat Sarybai, RK Permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna.

The Conference started with ministerial segment plenary session and continued with scientific and technical programme comprising different themes concerning nuclear security.

The report of the Kazakhstan delegation leader reflected achievements of our country in nuclear weapon non-proliferation, effective cooperation between RK and IAEA in enhancing physical security. Attention of the Conference participants was drawn by the Initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, announced at 70th session of UN General Assembly and continued in Manifesto “World. XXI Century”, distributed as UN document. Participants also were informed about the progress of IAEA Project Bank of Low-Enriched Uranium in Kazakhstan, which is planned to be launched in the latter half of the year 2017.
