NNC RK Delegation Visits Switzerland

25 June 2026

A delegation from National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK) visited Switzerland on a working trip, meeting with representatives of Nagra, the national cooperative for the disposal of radioactive waste.

During the negotiations, Swiss specialists shared their expertise in geological surveying and subsurface modeling for deep geological disposal projects. The two sides also discussed promising areas for scientific and technical cooperation and the potential for joint project implementation.

Delegation also visited several key facilities during the trip: Zwilag, a temporary radioactive waste storage and processing site; the Mont Terri underground research laboratory, where ongoing studies focus on demonstrating the safety case for deep geological disposal; and the PANDA experimental facility at the Paul Scherer Institute (PSI).

This visit is expected to inform ongoing research and strengthen approaches to safe radioactive waste management in Kazakhstan.
