Proposal for construction of a nuclear reactor in Azerbaijan will be submitted for discussion at the coming 51st IAEA Conference to be held in September 17-21 in Vienna, said Adil Garibov, Director, Institute of Radiation Problems of the National Academy of Sciences.
"Azerbaijan will submit the proposal for nuclear reactor construction in the republic at the IAEA General Conference. It has already got a support from relevant state organizations for the issue and is waiting for IAEA agreement", - said A. Garibov at a press-conference on Thursday.
According to A. Garibov, with support of IAEA construction of a nuclear reactor in Azerbaijan will become possible by 2009. "Idea of a nuclear reactor construction in Azerbaijan was already considered in the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic where the Institute of Radiation Problems has sent a package of proposals with all the necessary figures" - emphasized the Director of the Institute.
"Azerbaijan will present four more proposals for IAEA consideration during the conference. Among them is introduction of state-of-the-art methods of irradiation sterilization in Azerbaijan, establishment of necessary control organizations, etc." - mentioned A. Garibov.
