The Preliminary Arrangement on the Construction Site for NPP in Kazakhstan is Achieved

The preliminary arrangement of nuclear power plant construction site in Kazakhstan is achieved. Kanat Bozumbaev, President of JSC "KEGOK", informed it to the agency correspondent.

"The construction of NPP is preliminary arranged in Mangistau Region at the place of BN-350 reactor", - emphasized K. Bozumbaev, having noted that "the feasibility study should confirm the arrangement".

К. Bozumbaev also reminded that a working group is formed in Kazakhstan under the chairmanship of Danial Akhmetov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is engaged in consideration of  issue on nuclear power industry establishment in the republic.

As it was informed earlier, the Government declared, that Almaty, Mangistau, East Kazakhstan and Akmola regions are the most preferable for construction of the first NPP in Kazakhstan.

In opinion of experts, designs of NPP with medium power reactors are optimal for Kazakhstan taking into account economic, industry and power conditions. The question is the design of the NPP with three power units of VBER-300 type, which are the recent development of Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau of Machine Engineering (ОКBМ, Nizhni Novgorod).

Besides, on October 17 during the government meeting, Danial Akhmetov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, charged to allocate means from government reserve to develop the feasibility study of the NPP construction.

The first proposal to construct NPP at Balkhash was made by Vladimir Shkolnik in 1997 being in a position of the Minister of Education and Science of RK. Scientists of the Institute of Atomic Energy of National Nuclear Center of RK selected a site for the construction, the foundation was laid, but the construction had to be postponed, as the power plant design was stopped.
