USA State Department Proposed to Extend Kazakhstan-Russia JE up to the Establishment of International Uranium Center

US State Department proposed to extend the Kazakhstan-Russia joint enterprise on uranium enrichment up to the international center which can be used by any country that wish to use nuclear power in peaceful purposes. As was informed by representatives of the State Department at press-conference in Washington, USA expected that any deliveries of uranium from the center would comply with the conditions provided in Non-proliferation treaty, reported Associated Press. First, the conditions include a prohibition to use nuclear power to create nuclear weapon and necessity to get an agreement of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for enriched uranium supply.

Remind that day before Sergey Kiriyenko, Head of ROSATOM informed that Federal Atomic Energy Agency (ROSATOM) and corresponding institution of Kazakhstan planned to establish Russia-Kazakhstan joint enterprise for transportation of fissile materials and enriched uranium product. Previously on October 12, 2006 agreements were signed for establishment of other three Russian-Kazakhstan joint enterprises. They are JSC “Kazakhstan-Russian Company “Power Plants” (JSC “KRCNP”) will be involved in development of design and technical documentation for nuclear power units, equipment delivery, construction and adjustment operations at NPP sites, in training of Customer operators, and life cycle support services for nuclear plants. Besides, two more joint enterprises were established: Akbastau (is being established to explore Zarechnoye deposit in South Kazakhstan and sections of Budenov uranium field) and Uranium enrichment center (will be located in Angarsk, Russia).
