First New Generation NPP will be completed in UK before 2020

"First new generation nuclear power plant (NPP) will be completed in UK before 2020",- announced John Hutton, Minister of Business Affairs on Wednesday at the House of Commons of British Parliament.

"Nuclear power is tried and tested as safe and affordable", - declared Hutton. "Nuclear power should play a role in number of various energy sources in our country, including low carbon sources", - he added.

According to his version, British legislation related to NPP operation is absolutely reliable and meets all international regulations. Independent commission will control implementation of project designed to provide energy safety of country for next decades.

Hutton also informed that new NPP will be funded by private companies not government.

"Today I invite energy companies to bring forward plans to construct and operate new nuclear power plants",- said Minister, he added that financing procedure must be maximum transparent. Minister emphasized that construction of new NPP allows UK to stand up to number of threats, including global warming.

Currently nuclear power plants produce about 20% of electric power in the country.
