The 6th Conference-Competition of Young Scientists and Specialists was held in Kurchatov

The Sixth Annual Research and Advanced Development Conference-Competition of NNC RK young scientists and specialists was held on the basis of National Nuclear Center within May 15 - 17, 2006 in Kurchatov. Young scientists from Institute of Nuclear Physics, Institute of Atomic Energy, Institute of Geophysical Research, Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology, RSE National Nuclear Center and Scientific Research Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics of al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in competition.

36 scientific reports were listened at a conference among them 7 were from NNC RK, 12 were from INP, 8 were from IGR, 5 were from IAE, 3 were from IRSE, 1 was noncompetitive (among them 5 were fundamental, 21 were applied, 12 were engineering).Competitive reports of participants were assessed by competent jury composed of 9 members under the chairmanship of Deputy Director General of National Nuclear Center of RK, Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences Zhotabaev Zhenis Rakhmetovich..

At determining top places, the total score gained by competitors was taken into account according to the following criteria: relevance, practical value (the importance of issue that report dedicated), academic and engineering levels, newness of results, degree of report’s completeness, personal contribution of competitor, style of representation and level of material knowing. Considering the direction-specific, the additional criteria for appraisal were:

  • Fundamental-Publication Level
  • Engineering - Technology Assessment
  • Applied - Competitiveness

At this year some changes had been made in awarding procedure there was no division into 1st, 2nd, 3rd places. There were only 6 equivalent places among them 1 was for fundamental research, 3 were for applied research, 2 were for engineering development.

Pursuant to results of voting, jury decided to give Diploma and money reward in the amount of 20 thousand tenge on fundamental research to

Krasovitskii Pavel Mikhailovich (ASE INP), Scientific Report: “Resonant Diffusion of Compound Particles”.

Diplomas and money reward in the amount of 20 thousand tenge on applied research were given to:

The only award of non-competitive Report, Diploma and Prize were given to V.V. Dyachkov (Scientific Research Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University) for the Report “Nuclear Database for the Atomic Power in the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

Certificate of Conference-Competition participant was issued to all the participants of R&D VII Conference-Competition of RSE NNC RK young scientists and specialists.

This year firstly for the period of Conference-Competition of NNC RK young scientists and specialists the awards were established by the following nominations (so called People’s Choice Award):
"The Best Speaker"
"The Best Preparation of Report"
"Originality of Report".

Young scientists had opportunity to know each other’s worth having filled all the given rating-lists with enumerated nominations.

According to the interview, the best speaker is P.Yu. Krivtsov (NNC RK), the best preparation of Scientific Report is made by Zh. B. Kimolayev (IAE NNC RK), the best originality of Report is presented by A. A. Akayev (NNC RK). Diploma and valuable presents were given to all the winners.

During the Conference young scientists not only worked but also had a rest. Relay race “Cheerful Start” has been performed to one of the evenings. Next day the young people decided to participate in the Intellectual Olympiad. These two evenings were carried out very interesting and joyful, in homely and friendly atmosphere that were enabled to coming of young people closer together and setting of professional and friendly ties.

We congratulate and express appreciation to winners, competitors, jury, scientific work managers, Institute managers, Council of NNC young scientists and specialists, all NNC specialists participating in the Conference-Competition. We wish more power in further successful investigations and meetings at VII Conference-Competition which will be held in 2007 on the base of the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Almaty.
