Public Hearings on EIA for Tokamak KTM Construction Were Held
December 18, 2003, public hearings on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Construction of Kazakhstani Material Testing Reactor Tokamak KTM were held in Kurchatov. Representatives of administrative, supervisory, industrial, research, public and educational institutions of Kurchatov and Semipalatinsk attended the hearings. NNC RK Chief Engineer Leonid Tikhomirov introduced the Tokamak KTM construction program to the attendees. IRSE Director Larisa Ptitskaya presented the EIA basic provisions and conclusions.
After hearing the reports and answers, the meeting attendees agreed upon the following:
- Take into account the reports presented:
- Construction of Kazakhstani Thermonuclear Material Testing Reactor Tokamak KTM
(L. Tikhomirov, NNC RK) - Environmental Consequences of Kazakhstani Material Testing Reactor Tokamak KTM Operation (L. Ptitskaya, IRSE)
- Recommend to publish the information on construction of Tokamak reactor in Kurchatov and EIA public hearings in the local and national mass media.
- On behalf of the attendees of public hearings, express support to the construction of Kazakhstani Tokamak KTM reactor and take into account the proposals and recommendations made at the meeting.
