Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Kurchatov

On August 13, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Kurchatov during his business tour through the East-Kazakhstan Oblast. The NNC Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology hosted helicopters with the guests. The President visited the Museum of the Semipalatinsk Test Site, which was founded in 1972, where IRSE Director Larisa Ptitskaya guided him through the STS history.

Leaders of the research institutes working at the NNC base pointed out a number of achievements such as a process initiated to dispose nuclear waste, implementation of the rehabilitation program for the people of the Semipalatinsk region, etc.

Speaking about 1 million of hectares of the land that was withdrawn from the national use, Nursultan Nazarbayev said "we have not convinced the world community what a damage was done to Kazakhstan land and its people during all these years". "We need so much to do, there are tasks to be still fulfilled, but there is a great experience, experience of the executive power and people of this region", - said President Nazarbayev.  

Nursultan Abishevich visited a test-bench designed to study problems of nuclear power safety, where in-pile and out-of-pile experiments are conducted under the Kazakhstan-Japan project - EAGLE.  Director of the Institute of Atomic Energy Oleg Pivovarov acquainted the President with the test-bench operation and recent achievements. 

During President Nazarbayev's visit to Kurchatov, a number of key issues and prospects for further development were discussed.
